Plans.
Woooo Garden.
I'm Emily. I'm a Junior here at Ross, and head of the Environmental Club. I have an independent study class that allows me to work on the Garden during the day for the Winter Term, and this blog will be the means of showing what I'm learning.
The plan for this garden, step by step, is as follows:
- Get a path in. We're going to use crushed concrete and then gravel to make a stable path that the rain won't wash away.
- Surround the garden with deer-fencing. Though they're beautiful creatures, they're pesky when it comes to gardens.
- Fundraise! We have been incredibly lucky thus far in having donations given, but we will need the support of our community if we want this project to succeed.
- Plan what/how to plant. We have been talking about different techniques of gardening, and we (I) have to learn more about the soil and what will grow well here, all that jazz. This is a big step, and the main reason I have this time in school.
- Plant. This step, I haven't even begun to think about. I'm a total newbie in this whole gardening thing, I've never really done it. But what I've found thus far is that if you want to learn, and you're passionate about working on it, people are excited to share their knowledge with you. So I'm guessing we'll talk to local farmers on this one, and read books... haha. General. We'll figure it out when we get to this step.
Over the Thanksgiving break, we had a huge crew of wonderful people who volunteered their time to dig the space for the path. We are currently waiting for the materials to be delivered, and we will then begin to install the stuff into the path we dug.
Photos to come.
